A comprehensive replacement high school and new athletic facilities for Birmingham City Schools
This is a multi-phase project including sequential construction and demolition and coordination of Owner’s on-going use of portions of the facility throughout the construction period. The 208,000 s.f. comprehensive high school was completed in 2008 at a cost of $36.4M. It includes General and Special-purpose Classrooms, Science Laboratories, a 750-seat Auditorium, Career/Tech facilities, a Library/Media Center, Computer Labs, Administrative Offices, Food Service/Dining, Culinary Arts Lab, ROTC training facility, a new Practice Gymnasium and renovated/expanded Competition Gymnasium, and Football Stadium.
Interesting Fact
The project sequence included constructing and occupying the new high school, expanding/renovating the existing gymnasium building, demolishing the original school, and constructing a new football stadium and practice facility in its place. Careful coordination ensured the Owner’s use of the site throughout the multi-year/multi-phase construction period.
