Who We Are
History | Meet Our Team | Stewardship | Disaster Assistance | Culture
We are a multidisciplinary architecture, interior design, and planning firm with extensive experience designing new construction, renovations, additions/alterations, and providing disaster response and recovery services.
Aho Architects was founded in 2007, in Hoover, Alabama. The firm initially focused on institutional clients (colleges and universities, K-12 school systems, churches, and governments) and strategically applied Tim Aho’s expertise serving them, to their smaller projects. Within a few months, April Cain joined the firm and we were asked to complete the new Wenonah High School for Birmingham City Schools. Our responsiveness, agility, low overhead, and extensive use of technology allowed us to compete successfully with firms many times our size.
By focusing on building relationships and not just buildings, we have seen significant growth. We now operate in 19 states and have an industry-leading rate of repeat business. Since inception, by staying true to our core values we have been fortunate to continue growing our team, developing new market expertise, and deepening our client relationships. That is how we define success, and we are grateful for the opportunities, projects, and trust awarded us by the best clients around.
Our staff of talented professionals will work with you to develop a design that meets your functional, aesthetic and budgetary needs. At Aho Architects, our success is built on listening to our clients. We create lasting designs out of communication, collaboration, and consistent attention to detail.
Providing architectural services founded on these principles ensures that our firm builds relationships, not just buildings.

Aho Architects practices stewardship, social responsibility, and good corporate citizenship. It is important to us as a company to use the talents and resources we have been blessed with to benefit others in our community and causes we support. Since our founding in 2007, we have:
made more than $100,000 in monetary donations
contributed more than 1,800 hours of volunteer service
supported more than 38 charities/ministries
We partner with Habitat for Humanity several times a year and use our God-given skills to help local families build their new homes. Our reach of service goes beyond our local community as we sponsor Joseph, Njeri, Juliet, Jesi, and Irene in North Kinangop, Kenya through Hope Community Centre. We provide for their basic needs and education and have contributed to the building of their new school.
“Stewardship means our talents, opportunities, and resources are best used in service to others.” - Tim Aho
This bulletin board is in our break room and illustrates a big part of our service culture and why we do what we do. Some highlights from the board are: pictures of 4 orphans we currently sponsor in Kenya; the primary school there we helped build; a school bus-turned-kitchen to provide summer lunches for food insecure children in our local school district; our team working on a recent Habitat for Humanity renovation project; and various thank-you notes from ministries/charities supported by the “make the world better” budget we give each team member.
We have a proven track record of assisting communities and clients who have experienced disasters. We feel it’s important to align our corporate values with our volunteer work.
Several of our team members are also trained volunteers who specialize in conducting post-disaster damage assessments. We aim to serve clients during difficult times and work to be a reliable partner in helping them navigate the insurance claims process and expedite their recovery. Aho team members stay in touch with state emergency management officials during times of disaster to monitor situations and reach out where we can help.
Stewardship is a big part of our firm culture, but we also like to have fun together.
Several times a year, we have outings which have included working on Habitat for Humanity builds together, learning new things, celebrating team birthdays, and annual “fun days” which have included candy-making, exploring the outdoors, mud-riding in off-road vehicles, shooting sporting clays, and even driving a World War II battle tank! (Some of us may have enjoyed that last one a little too much!)
Our culture is also marked by supporting one another, committing to the development of emerging professionals, and serving our communities.
We are always looking to connect with like-minded professionals who love doing the work we do. Our team is like family. We enjoy serving our clients, building relationships, and using our talents and opportunities well.
