Coastal Alabama Community College | Brewton Campus
Leigh Library Renovation Project at Coastal Alabama Community College
Overview:
Scope: Major renovation of the college’s campus library.
Size: Expanded from 11,000 square feet by infilling 3 of the 4 exterior porches.
Design Changes: Removed interior partitions to create an open atmosphere and redesigned the layout for stacks.
Upgrades: Complete renovation of interior finishes, along with electrical and mechanical upgrades.
Completion: The project was completed under budget.
Design Concept: "Third Place"
The concept of the "Third Place" (or third space) refers to social surroundings separate from home and the workplace. This renovation has transformed the library into a vibrant social hub for students and the community, more like a coffeehouse, allowing the College to achieve more than initially expected with the project.
Aho Architects has completed more than 45 projects for Coastal Alabama Community College and its predecessors.
