This new medical office for orthopedic surgeon Dr. Matt Davis was the initial build-out of shell space on the second floor of St. Vincent's One Nineteen Health and Wellness in Birmingham.
Design and Layout
The client desired a space that allowed plenty of natural light and views while maintaining patient privacy through controlled sight lines and interior glazing for acoustic separation. The interior layout features a sweeping curve that creates dynamic visual interest and a calming atmosphere. Large west-facing windows have interior window box planters, bringing a natural element indoors while screening views of the roof below. The space is finished with attractive materials such as stone and wood in various shades.

3-D computer visualization and simulation were extensively used in the design process to model the flow of patients and staff, test layouts and views, and explore various finish schemes. The project was completed in early 2009, under budget.
